Nicolaes Pieterszoon Berchem (1 October 1620 – 18 February 1683) was a highly esteemed and prolific Dutch Golden Age painter of pastoral landscapes, populated with mythological or biblical figures, but also of a number of allegories and genre pieces.
Nicolaes Berchem was one of the most popular and successful Italianate landscape painters of his day. Aside from views of Italy, his extensive oeuvre of paintings, drawings, and etchings consists of depictions of the hunt and biblical and mythological scenes.
Hace 4 días · 1620 - 1683. Nicolaes Pietersz, son of the still-life painter Pieter Claesz., adopted the surname Berchem. He was born in Haarlem and worked chiefly in that city; he probably travelled to Italy in the 1640s. By 1677 he was working in Amsterdam. He was the principal Dutch painter of Italianate pastoral scenes.

Berchem received instruction from his father, Pieter Claesz, a prominent still-life painter, and from several other Dutch masters.
