  7. I. Childhood and Study Abroad. Kuroda was born on the 29th day of the 6th month of 1866 (Keio 2) in Takamibaba, Kagoshima city. His father, Kuroda Kiyokane, was a samurai of the Shimazu clan, and his mother was named Yaeko. He was their oldest son. At birth, Seiki was given the name Shintaro which was later changed to Seiki.
