George J. Dufek. A graduate of the Class of 1925 at the U. S. Naval Academy, Admiral Dufek served in submarines, in aviation, and in almost all classes of surface ships. His last sea command was the aircraft carrier USS Antietam during the Korean conflict.

George John Dufek (1903-1977) was an American naval officer and arctic expert. Born in Rockford, Illinois, he joined the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at his local high school and was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland in 1921.
