Mary Jane Godwin (née de Vial; pseudonymed Mary Jane Clairmont; 1768 – 17 June 1841) was an English author, publisher, and bookseller. She was the second wife of William Godwin and stepmother to Mary Shelley.

Mary Jane Vial Godwin was probably born in Exeter, the daughter of Peter de Vial (d. 1791), a French ordinance merchant, and his first wife, Mary de Vial, née Tremlett (1740–74).
William Godwin. Having married Mary Jane Clairmont in 1801, Godwin acquired two stepchildren to add to Wollstonecraft's two daughters. Mary Jane was a skilled translator who had worked for Benjamin Tabart in the children's-book trade.
