Konstantin Nikolayevich Bestuzhev-Ryumin was one of the most popular Russian Imperial historians of the 19th century. He held a chair in Russian History at the University of St. Petersburg and was elected into the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences in 1890.
2. The Higher Education Courses for Women opened in St. Petersburg in September 1878. Their first director was a professor and a nephew of a Decembrist, Konstantin Bestuzhev-Ryumin.
Despite his obscure position as a provincial mayor, Bestuzhev-Ryumin belonged to a branch of an ancient noble family (mentioned in chronicles since the 14th century), which included, among others, Count Alexey Bestuzhev-Ryumin (1693-1766) and Mikhail's nephew, historian Konstantin Bestuzhev-Ryumin .

On May 14 (26), 1829 in Kudreshki village of Gorbatov district in Nizhny Novgorod province, in an ancient noble family was born Konstantin Nikolaevich Bestuzhev-Ryumin, an academician of St. Petersburg Academy of Science, a Russian historian and publicist, the founder of the High Women Courses in Petersburg.
