Heinrich Gotthard Freiherr von Treitschke (German: [ˈhaɪ̯n.ʁɪç fɔn ˈtʁaɪ̯.t͡ʃkə]; 15 September 1834 – 28 April 1896) was a German historian, political writer and National Liberal member of the Reichstag during the time of the German Empire.

The son of a Saxon general, Treitschke studied at Bonn and Leipzig. He taught history and politics at the University of Leipzig.

He had planned a military career but was disqualified by an ear affliction that affected his hearing, and so he took up the study of political science and history instead.
