The Élysée Palace (French: Palais de l'Élysée, pronounced [palɛ də lelize]), or simply the Élysée, is the official residence of the President of the French Republic in Paris. Completed in 1722, it was built for nobleman and army officer Louis Henri de La Tour d'Auvergne, who had been appointed Governor of Île-de-France in 1719.
The Élysée Palace on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré — official residence of the President of the French Republic —borders the park, but is not on the Avenue itself. The Champs-Élysées ends at the Arc de Triomphe, built to honor the victories of Napoléon Bonaparte .
