Aldenham School is a co-educational private boarding and day school for pupils aged eleven to eighteen, located between Elstree and the village of Aldenham in Hertfordshire, England. There is also a preparatory school for pupils from the ages of five to eleven.
There are four boarding Houses; McGill’s, Beevor’s and Kennedy’s which are for boys and Paull’s House for the girls. There are two day Houses (Riding's for girls and Leeman's for boys) and two Junior Houses (Martineau's and Woodrow's for both boys and girls).
Founded in 1597 by Richard Platt, proprietor of the Old Swan Brewery in the Parish of Garlickhithe in the City of London, Aldenham School boasts a mixture of tradition coupled with a sense of history.
Opened in 1887 as the first ‘new' boarding House to accommodate the increasing student numbers, the first Housemaster was Mr McGill, a talented artist, a learned naturalist and one of the outstanding schoolmasters of his day, serving Aldenham for 32 years.
Kennedy's, albeit that it is the newest of the Senior Boarding Houses, nevertheless boasts a proud legacy. The House is named after John Kennedy who was largely responsible for the construction of the school as it is today. On July 17th, 1876, John Kennedy was elected to the Headmastership.
Wall Hall, originally known as Aldenham Abbey, is a country house at Aldenham in Hertfordshire, England. The main house and several ancillary buildings are Grade II listed. The gardens and parkland are also on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England .
