Josef Fritzl ( Amstetten, 9 de abril de 1935), ex-ingeniero austriaco, fue un alcohólico negligente, que fue abandonado por su padre, en 1939. Su padre, tras luchar como soldado de la Wehrmacht durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, murió en el campo de batalla en 1944.
Amstetten (German pronunciation: [amˈʃtɛtn̩] ⓘ) is a city in Lower Austria. It is the capital of the Amstetten District and the centre of the historical region Mostviertel (“Most” – lightly fermented apple juice, “viertel” – a region of the province Lower Austria ).
Amstetten ist eine Stadt im Südwesten Niederösterreichs, dem Mostviertel. Sie ist Sitz der Bezirkshauptmannschaft Amstetten und zählt 23.902 Einwohner (Stand 1. Jänner 2023).

Amstetten, town, northeastern Austria. It is situated near the Ybbs River, northeast of Steyr. Recorded in 996 as a possession of the bishops of Passau (now in Germany), it was fortified and granted market rights when it passed to the House of Habsburg in 1276. It achieved town status in 1897.
