In the mid-1450s, Goštautas planned to depose Grand Duke Casimir IV Jagiellon and to install his son-in-law Simeon Olelkovich. Simeon inherited the Principality of Kiev, but after his death it was converted into the Kiev Voivodeship.

Similar to his peers from Bologna, he based his lectures on the works of Hippocrates, Galen, and Avicenna. A few years later, he received his professorship in medicine and became the doctor of the Polish king Casimir IV Jagiellon.
