Charles, Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach, was Queen’s Caroline’s nephew; he inherited from his father in 1723 and married the daughter of Frederick William I of Prussia in 1729. His love of hunting earned him the nickname the ‘Wild Margrave’. This is one of a pair of full-length portraits of husband and wife (RCIN 406794-5), identically framed.
