The County of Cilli (German: Cilli, Slovene: Celje) was a medieval county in the territory of the present-day Slovenia. It was governed by the Counts of Cilli (also Counts of Celje). [1] Following the death of Ulrich II of Celje , the county was subsumed by neighbouring Duchy of Styria .
The Counts of Cilli or Celje represent the most important medieval aristocratic and ruling house with roots and territory in present-day Slovenia. When the house died out its head held the rank of prince of the Holy Roman Empire and many other titles in territories of present-day Central Europe.

4 de sept. de 2017 · It is the biggest and probably the most important medieval castle in Slovenia and was first built as a fort in the 12th century by the Counts of Vovberg. Yet, it was the castle’s most famous inhabitants, the Counts of Celje, who transformed it into a residence at the end of the 14th century.
The Celje Castle was built by the Counts of Heunberg in the second half of the 12th century. Then, the Lords of Sanneck (1333) who quickly climbed the ranks of the European elite, inherited the castle. They were elevated to the rank of the Counts of Celje soon after their move to Celje.
