The Counts of Cilli or Celje represent the most important medieval aristocratic and ruling house with roots and territory in present-day Slovenia. When the house died out its head held the rank of prince of the Holy Roman Empire and many other titles in territories of present-day Central Europe.
4 de sept. de 2017 · It is the biggest and probably the most important medieval castle in Slovenia and was first built as a fort in the 12th century by the Counts of Vovberg. Yet, it was the castle’s most famous inhabitants, the Counts of Celje, who transformed it into a residence at the end of the 14th century.
Throughout the centuries, there has been a persistent notion about the affluent and uncomprising family, willing to go to extreme lengths to reach any goal; in the 19th century, there was also the historical myth about the Celje Counts as the first bearers of Slovenian nationality.
