Duke Dog is the official mascot for the James Madison University Dukes. "Dukes" was made the official nickname in 1947, and was named after the University's president from 1919 to 1949, Samuel Page Duke.

4 de nov. de 2020 · JMU’s Duke Dog mascot has been a staple in JMU home sporting and community events since his debut in 1982. Named after former JMU president Samuel Duke, Duke Dog stands at 8-feet-tall with a cape and purple crown. He is a JMU icon and the embodiment of our school spirit.

13 de sept. de 2023 · Duke Dog was born. Duke Dog made his first appearance as a cartoon and as a real bulldog in the 1972-73 school year. An early version of a Duke Dog student mascot appeared in 1972-73 but the mascot outfit similar to the one used today did not come into use until 1982-83.
