Fairmount is a town in Fairmount Township, Grant County in the east central part of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 2,954 at the 2010 census. It is 55 miles (88 km) northeast of Indianapolis.

ABOUT FAIRMOUNT. Located in Grant County, Indiana, the Town of Fairmount was first settled by Joseph Winslow, who cleared land about four miles north of town in 1830 on what is now the Marcus Winslow farm (the same farm where James Dean spent his childhood).
