  4. Ferdinand Maria (born Oct. 31, 1636, Munich—died May 26, 1679, Schleissheim, Bavaria) was the elector of Bavaria (1651–79), son of Maximilian I. A minor when he succeeded, he did much to repair the wounds caused by the Thirty Years’ War, encouraging agriculture and industries, and building or restoring numerous churches and monasteries.
