The Grand Ducal Burial Vault (Russian: Великокняжеская усыпальница) is the purpose-built mausoleum of the Grand Dukes and Duchesses of Russia in the Peter and Paul Fortress. The Neo-Baroque domed structure is frequently mistaken for a part of the Peter and Paul Cathedral due to architectural similarities.

The Ducal Mausoleum in St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Oldenburg is the traditional burial site for the Grand Ducal Family and contains the tombs of all but one of the Grand Dukes and consorts. The Mausoleum was built between 1785 and 1790, following the death of Princess Friederike, the wife of the future Grand Duke Peter I.
This extraordinary mausoleum is not only the burial place of the rulers of the Saxony-Weimar and Eisenach dynasty. The two greatest poets of the Weimar Classical period, Goethe and Schiller, were interred here as well in 1832 where their caskets remain alongside those of the ducal family.
