The Hoefler Text typeface was designed by Jonathan Hoefler in 1991. Created for Apple Computer, it was one of the first digital typefaces to restore many of the vanished traditions once central to fine typography such as extended ligatures, small capitals, engraved initials, and arabesque borders.
As its name suggests, Hoefler Text is designed for extended reading, its drawings, spacing, and schedule of weights all chosen to suit small sizes. The family includes two sets of engraved capitals, designed for slightly larger sizes, and a font of ornaments and arabesques, for both small and medium sizes.
Hoefler&Co. (H&Co) is a digital type foundry (font design studio) in Woburn, Massachusetts (formerly New York City), founded by type designer Jonathan Hoefler. H&Co designs typefaces for clients and for retail on its website.
