John III, Duke of Cleves and Count of Mark (German: Johann III der Friedfertige; 10 November 1490 – 6 February 1539), known as John the Peaceful, was the Lord of Ravensberg, Count of Mark, and founder of the United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg.

Juan III de Jülich-Cléveris-Berg (en alemán: Johann III. von Jülich-Kleve-Berg; 10 de noviembre de 1490-6 de febrero de 1539) fue duque de Jülich-Cléveris-Berg y conde de Mark . Biografía. Juan era hijo de Juan II de Cléveris, duque de Cléveris y conde de Mark, y de Matilde de Hesse.

John III became Regent of the United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg in 1521, and Lord of Ravensberg in 1528. He was a great-great-grandson of John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy. His wife was Maria, Duchess of Jülich-Berg.

John III, Duke of Cleves and Count of Mark (German: Johann III der Friedfertige; 10 November 1490 – 6 February 1539), known as John the Peaceful, was the Lord of Ravensberg, Count of Marck, and founder of the United Duchies of Jülich-Cleves-Berg. He was born the Duke of Cleves as the son of John II, Duke of Cleves and Mathilde of Hesse.
In 1521, Duke John III of Cleves inherited through marriage the duchies of Jülich and Berg and the county of Ravensberg. His daughter, Anne of Cleves, was married in 1540 to Henry VIII of England. In 1609 the male line became extinct, and a complicated dynastic quarrel for the succession followed.
