Die Geschichte Karlsruhes beginnt mit der Grundsteinlegung des Schlossturms am 17. Juni 1715 durch Markgraf Karl Wilhelm von Baden. Die Stadt entstand als barocke Planstadt auf dem strahlenförmigen Grundriss einer Jagdanlage im Hardtwald.

Ya en septiembre de 1715 Carlos Guillermo publicó la llamada carta de privilegios y la divulgó mucho más allá de las fronteras. A quienes querían establecerse en Karlsruhe les aseguraba libertades muy amplias para su época y facilidades comerciales.
