South Tyrol, also known by its Italian name Alto Adige (German: Südtirol, Italian: Alto Adige, Southern Bavarian: Sidtiroul), is an autonomous province in northern Italy. Together with the province of Trento, it makes up the region of Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol. The province has an area of 7,400 square kilometres (2,857 sq mi).
El topónimo oficial alemán es Autonome Provinz Bozen – Südtirol, normalmente abreviado en Südtirol (Tirol del Sur), nombre que corresponde a la región histórica y geográfica del Tirol, unidad administrativa del Imperio austrohúngaro hasta el año 1918.
Trentino-Alto Adigio/Tirol del Sur (en italiano: Trentino-Alto Adige; en alemán: Trentino-Südtirol) es una de las veinte regiones que conforman la República Italiana. Su capital y ciudad más poblada es Trento.
