  5. William Sutherland, 18th Earl of Sutherland was born on 28 May 1735. He was the son of William Sutherland, 17th Earl of Sutherland and Lady Elizabeth. He married Mary Maxwell, daughter of William Maxwell of Preston and Elizabeth Hairstanes, on 14 April 1761. He died on 16 June 1766 at age 31. [1] .
