  5. Huron County was established by the legislature of Ohio, Feb. 7, 1809, but not organized until Jan. 31, 1815. The first meeting of its board of commissioners was held August 1, 1815, at the county seat, Avery (not the Avery of today), on the east side of the Huron River only a short distance south of the present Nickel Plate railroad bridge.
