15 de abr. de 2024 · Mission San Gabriel Arcángel, founded in 1771 by Father Junípero Serra and the fourth in the California chain of 21 missions, was moved 4.5 miles (7 km) to its present site in 1775. The fortresslike mission church, which resembles the Córdoba Mosque in Spain, formed the nucleus of a mixed-farming and citrus-growing community.
San Gabriel was one of the first townships in the County of Los Angeles, and the city was incorporated on April 24, 1913 with a population of 1,500 people. The Mission District. The Mission was the heart and soul of the city's history, culture and art, and the Mission District still serves that purpose in the city today.
