Baretta is an American detective television series which ran on ABC from 1975 to 1978. The show was a revised and milder version of a 1973–1974 ABC series, Toma, starring Tony Musante as chameleon-like, real-life New Jersey police officer David Toma.

With the help of a nun and a deaf mute nicknamed Shoes, Baretta tries to find a serial rapist who initially poses to his female victims as a plainclothes detective.
Season 1 – Baretta. Maverick, street-smart undercover detective Tony Baretta does whatever it takes to bust the bad guys, even when it means going against his supervisors.
Baretta meets a parole officer friend (John Shockley) returning from Mexico. Just after telling Baretta that he had seen a former parolee alive and well (in spite of being declared a suicide by drowning a few months earlier), Shockley is the victim of a deliberate hit-and-run.
