Died: 10 December 1949. George Hearn. He helped to create the world’s governing body for aquatics – but even George Hearn admitted it had happened by accident. It was during the 1908 London Olympics that Hearn was part of a group who were asked to establish an Olympic Swimming Code.
Hearn was their first president and remained in that post until 1924. He was also secretary from 1924-28. Hearn, who was a furnishing draper by occupation, refereed one game (Sweden v. Austria) at the 1912 Olympics. He was inducted into International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1986.
