  6. The Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is one of four conservatoires associated with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. Its history dates back to 1893 when Sir Charles Hallé founded the Royal Manchester College of Music. In 1973 the college merged with the Northern School of Music to form the RNCM.
