The Cloud Recesses (云深不知处, Yúnshēn Bùzhīchù) is the residence of the Gusu Lan Clan located on a remote mountain outside the city of Gusu. The Cloud Recesses are constantly enveloped in mist, giving it the appearance of a place floating on an ocean of clouds in the immortal realm.[1]

As youths, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng came to the Cloud Recesses to study. Wei Wuxian immediately clashed with Lan Wangji by breaking curfew to sneak Emperor's Smile into the Gusu Lan Clan, breaking many of their over three-thousand rules.

In his debut episode during the Cloud Recess flashbacks he lamented how low his cultivation power is, and a turtle in a pond is shown.
While good-natured and well-behaved at home, he played a lot of pranks elsewhere and was prone to breaking numerous rules in the Cloud Recesses as a teenager. As an adult, he still has a mischievous streak but is less of a headache to deal with.
