Alan Duff MBE (born 26 October 1950) is a New Zealand novelist and newspaper columnist. He is best known as the author of the novel Once Were Warriors (1990), which was made into a film of the same name in 1994.

The film tells the story of the Heke family, an urban Māori whānau living in South Auckland, and their problems with poverty, alcoholism, and domestic violence, mostly brought on by the patriarch, Jake.
Su primer solista fue el rapero Martin Laacré entre 1992 y 1996. Posteriormente se unió al grupo Alan Duffy (DJ, cantante y músico), quien lo lidera desde 1997 hasta la actualidad y es el único miembro, por lo que se le llama a él King África.
