The House of Beauharnais (or House of Leuchtenberg; pronounced [bo.aʁ.nɛ]) is a French noble family. It is now headed by the Duke of Leuchtenberg, descendant in male line of Eugène de Beauharnais . History. Arms of Dukes of Leuchtenberg of the House of Beauharnais.
Through her children by Beauharnais, she was the grandmother of Emperor Napoleon III of France and Empress Amélie of Brazil. Members of the current royal families of Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and Norway and the grand ducal family of Luxembourg also descend from her.
Alexandre François Marie, Viscount of Beauharnais (28 May 1760 – 23 July 1794) was a French politician and general of the French Revolution. He was the first husband of Joséphine Tascher de La Pagerie, who later married Napoleon Bonaparte and became empress of France.
Born Marie-Joseph-Rose Tascher de La Pagerie to a family settled in Martinique, she came to France at the age of 16 to marry a young officer, Alexandre de Beauharnais, whose family was connected with her own.

In Paris, to which he came on his mother’s death, he was received honorably by the emperor Alexander and Louis XVIII. He immediately renounced all political activity and remained faithful to his new state and his family-in-law. He remained in Bavaria during the Hundred Days in accordance with the agreement which he had signed.
