The dramatic water displays were laid out by Landgrave Carl of Hesse-Kassel in 1689 to display his power as an absolute ruler. He derived his ideas from Italian, French and English examples of garden art.
Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel is a baroque work of art and the genius result of the architectural, artistic and technical influences of its time. It was created back in 1696 when Charles I, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel decided to give his reputation a boost over the other ruling houses.
