The House of Bernadotte is the royal family of Sweden, founded there in 1818 by King Charles XIV John of Sweden. It was also the royal family of Norway between 1818 and 1905. Its founder was born in Pau in southern France as Jean Bernadotte.
Born in Pau in the region of southern France known as Gascony, Bernadotte joined the French Royal Army in 1780. Following the outbreak of the French Revolution, he exhibited great military talent, rapidly rising through the ranks, and was made a brigadier general by 1794.

Carlos XIV Juan (Karl XIV Johan), nacido Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte ( Pau, Francia, 26 de enero de 1763- Estocolmo, Suecia, 8 de marzo de 1844), fue un militar del Imperio francés, príncipe soberano de Pontecorvo (1806-1810) y desde el 5 de febrero de 1818, monarca de Suecia (Carlos XIV) y Noruega (Carlos III).
