3 de ene. de 2018 · About the Order of the British Empire Medal. The 4 June 1917 saw the official unveiling of a new award the Order of the British Empire. Britain was in the thick of the First World War with no prospect of peace, and the entire nation was mobilised for the war effort.
19 de ene. de 2021 · The BEM or the British Empire Medal is a medal awarded for meritorious (meaning ‘deserving reward or praise’) civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown. The current honour was created in 1922 to replace the original medal which had been established in 1917 as part of the Order of the British Empire.
At the foundation of the order, the Medal of the Order of the British Empire was instituted, to serve as a lower award granting recipients affiliation but not membership. In 1922, this was renamed the British Empire Medal (BEM).
