Gmunden ( German: [ˈɡmʊndn̩] ⓘ) is a town in Upper Austria, Austria in the district of Gmunden. It has 13,204 inhabitants (estimates 2016 [3] ). Geography. Gmunden covers an area of 63.49 square kilometres (24.51 sq mi) and has a median elevation of 425 metres (1,394 ft).

Gmunden, town, north-central Austria, where the Traun River flows out of Lake Traun (Traunsee), a mountain lake. The site of Celtic and Roman settlements, Gmunden was fortified in the 12th century and chartered in the 13th. Its Baroque parish church on 13th-century foundations was consecrated in 1723, and the town hall dates from 1659.
