En 2006, la profesora Lucia Liguori (Elena Sofia Ricci), divorciada y residente en Milán, viaja a Roma para visitar a su madre. En la capital, conoce por casualidad al posadero Giulio Cesaroni (Claudio Amendola), su novio cuando estaba en el instituto y viudo de Marta desde hacía cinco años.
