Leeuwarden ( Dutch: [ˈleːu.ɑrdə (n)] ⓘ; West Frisian: Ljouwert [ˈljɔːʋ (ə)t] / [ˈʎɔːw (ə)t] ⓘ; Town Frisian: Liwwadden; Leeuwarder dialect: Leewarden) is a city and municipality in Friesland, Netherlands, with a population of 127,073 (2023). It is the provincial capital and seat of the Provincial Council of Friesland .

Leeuwarden ( pronunciación en neerlandés: /ˈleˑˌwɑrdə (n)/ ⓘ; en frisón, Ljouwert ), tradicionalmente en español Leuvarda 2 3 4 o Leuvarden 5 es la capital de la provincia de Frisia, y también del municipio homónimo de Leeuwarden, una de las once ciudades tradicionales de Frisia, localizada al norte de los Países Bajos .
Leeuwarden is one of the eleven Frisian cities. Like many other Dutch cities, it offers attractive city canals, charming shopping streets, inviting terraces and green city parks. But it can really feel like a different place because the Netherlands' second official language, Frisian, is spoken here.
Leeuwarden has everything you desire from a ‘traditional’ Dutch city, such as canals, gabled houses and a happy flow of cyclists riding the paths across town. But Leeuwarden is also pretty trendy, with repurposed industrial sights, high-quality museums and excellent dining opportunities.
