4 de ene. de 2023 · The rise in humanist philosophy weighed heavily on Calvin and, in turn, impacted his educational practices. Across Europe, leading minds attempted to break out of the Middle Ages and advance society forward; to some, that meant revisiting prior philosophy.

Calvin, at that time a humanist scholar but neither a priest nor an academic, converted to evangelical Christianity in the 1530s, when many churches repudiating Rome were already established. His theology was and remained largely Lutheran in inspiration.
