Gaveston's body was simply left behind at the site of his execution. One chronicle tells of how four shoemakers brought it to Warwick, who refused to accept it, and ordered them to take it back outside his jurisdiction. Eventually, a group of Dominican friars brought it to Oxford.

The head of Piers Gaveston, 1st Earl of Cornwall, is delivered to Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster; Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford; and Edmund FitzAlan, 9th Earl of Arundel, for inspection.
Hace 5 días · On hearing that Gaveston was so nearby, the Earl of Warwick attacked the castle, took Gaveston prisoner and with the support of the Earls of Lancaster, Hereford, and Arundel, had Gaveston tried and condemned to death for treachery. He was executed at the top of Blacklow Hill, on 19th June 1312.
