SEA Games 31 was originally scheduled to be held from November 21 to December 2, 2021. However, on June 9, 2021, the Vietnam Olympic Committee proposed that the SEA Games 31 be held in July 2022 due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

SEA Games, officially known as the South East Asian Games, is a biennial multi-sport event involving participants from the current 11 countries of Southeast Asia. The games are under the regulation of the Southeast Asian Games Federation with supervision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Esports will be featured as a medal sport at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam at the Vietnam National Convention Center in Hanoi from May 13th to May 22nd, 2022 (Originally from November 21st to December 2nd, 2021 but was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation in Southeast Asia).

SEA Games 31 will officially kick off on May 12. However, many events such as football, kickboxing, diving, futsal or kurash will take place before that day. The Vietnamese delegation attending the games has a total of 1,341 members; including 951 athletes and 250 coaches.
