St John's Theological College is a leading institution for Anglican ministry formation and theological education in New Zealand. It offers residential and regional programmes, as well as a rich history of serving the church and the community since 1843.
The College was established in 1843 by George Augustus Selwyn, Bishop of New Zealand, initially at Te Waimate mission. [1] The College, through the St John's College Trust Board, is one of the best endowed theological colleges in the Anglican Communion, with assets in 2014 of NZ$293m.
With the opening of Auckland University College in 1883 there was a strong desire on the part of some, including the Rt Rev’d W.G. Cowie, Bishop of Auckland, to link St John’s with the University College.

The St John's College Trust Board is a Trust that provides for education with the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia. The Trust was established in 1859 by Bishop George Augustus Selwyn who purchased 1330 acres in what is now commonly known as St Johns Auckland.
