27 de sept. de 2020 · GRIP DEFINITION Film. What is a Grip? A Grip is responsible for setting up, rigging, and striking lighting equipment on set. They are also responsible for keeping equipment organized, and sometimes equipment maintenance. A Key Grip in film is the boss of the Grips department.
Grips have two main functions: The first is to work closely with the camera department to provide camera support, especially if the camera is mounted to a dolly, crane, or in an unusual position, such as the top of a ladder. Some grips may specialize in operating camera dollies or camera cranes.
A Grip is vital to the craftsmanship of visual storytelling. They provide the physical labor and expertise to execute the Director of Photography’s vision on set. Their roles encompass a variety of responsibilities – from rigging camera supports to shaping light.

What does a grip do? Grips make sure that what the director and director of photography (DoP) want to achieve on a shoot is possible. While directors think of the artistry of the shots, grips work out how they are going to move the cameras to make that happen.
A grip is a film crew member who operates camera and related equipment on the set. Grips may also be responsible for preparing the camera before shooting, adjusting focus and zooming functions, working closely with the electrical department by adding filters to lights, handling cables while running them across sets, and operating cranes or dollies.
