De derde week van juli lopen we samen de 4Daagse, de grootste wandelprestatietocht ter wereld! Meer dan 45.000 deelnemers, met meer dan 70 verschillende nationaliteiten, van 11 jaar tot 90+, komen elk jaar naar Nijmegen om vier dagen 30, 40 of 50 kilometer te wandelen in de Waalstad en haar prachtige, bosrijke omgeving.
The Vierdaagse ( pronounced [ˌviːrˈdaːxsə], lit. 'four days event') is an annual walk that has taken place since 1909. Based at Nijmegen since 1925, it now takes place in the third week of July. In 2016 it celebrated the 100th edition (reflecting that the marches were curtailed during the two world wars).
Hoe laat mag ik starten? Elke afstand kent zijn eigen starttijden. De wandelaars op de 50 kilometer gaan als eerste van start, gevolgd door de deelnemers op de 40 en tot slot de 30 kilometer. Op die manier zorgen we voor een zo goed mogelijke spreiding van deelnemers op het parcours.
De 4Daagse gaat al meer dan 120 jaar terug. In 1909 klonk het startschot voor de Vierdaagse wandeltocht die zou uitgroeien tot de The Walk of the World.
