Landshut, city, Bavaria Land (state), southeastern Germany. It lies on the Isar River northeast of Munich. Named for its early position as the protector (Hut) of the neighbouring district, it was founded in 1204, when the duke of Bavaria built a fortress there, and was chartered in 1279.

Landshut is the capital of Lower Bavaria and also one of the main tourist destinations in the region so there is a good variety of accommodation in and around the town. Much of it is located near the historic centre or on the banks of the Isar river.
