Palmerston Island is one of a number of sandy islets on a continuous ring of coral reef enclosing a lagoon. The only inhabited islet is Home. The total land area of the islets is approximately 1 square mile (2.6 km 2). The coral reef covers about 3,600 acres (15 km 2).

Palmerston Island is the westernmost islet of a coral atoll belonging to the Cook Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Just sixty two people – all from the same bloodline – occupy the remote island, which sits approximately 2,000 miles (3,200 km) northeast of New Zealand and 2,850 miles (4,590 km) southwest of Hawaii.
Home is an islet in Palmerston Island in the Cook Islands. Sometimes referred to as Palmerston or Pamati, [1] the name given to the atoll by James Cook, [2] it is the only inhabited islet in the atoll. It is on the west side of the atoll, between Cooks and North Island .
