Stegosaurus stenops (gr. "lagarto con tejado de cara estrecha" [1] ) es una especie y tipo del género extinto Stegosaurus, que vivió a finales del período Jurásico, hace aproximadamente 156 y 144 millones de años, entre el Kimmeridgiense y el Titoniense, en lo que hoy es América del Norte.
De las especies que se han clasificado en la Formación Morrison superior del oeste de los EE. UU., solo tres son universalmente reconocidas, Stegosaurus stenops, Stegosaurus ungulatus y Stegosaurus sulcatus, con una cuarta Stegosaurus armatus siendo dudosa.
Stegosaurus stenops, meaning "narrow-faced roof lizard", was named by Marsh in 1887, with the holotype having been collected by Marshall Felch at Garden Park, north of Cañon City, Colorado, in 1886. This is the best-known species of Stegosaurus , mainly because its remains include at least one complete articulated skeleton.

The most complete Stegosaurus skeleton ever found went on display in the Museum's Earth Hall in December 2014. Identified as a member of the species Stegosaurus stenops, this spectacular specimen is helping researchers gain new insights into what Stegosaurus would have looked like when it was alive, as well as how it walked, ate and behaved.
1 de abr. de 2024 · Stegosaurus, (genus Stegosaurus ), one of the various plated dinosaurs ( Stegosauria) of the Late Jurassic Period (159 million to 144 million years ago) recognizable by its spiked tail and series of large triangular bony plates along the back. Stegosaurus usually grew to a length of about 6.5 metres (21 feet), but some reached 9 metres (30 feet).
