27 de feb. de 2024 · Though Christopher Columbus is widely credited as the man who discovered America, his 1492 voyage was far from the first to land on the shores of the New World. In the Yukon alone, archaeological evidence has shown that humans reached the area at least 14,000 years ago.
On his first voyage he reached the Americas, initiating the European exploration and colonization of the continent, as well as the Columbian exchange. His role in history is thus important to the Age of Discovery, Western history, and human history writ large.
