Amanda Lear (née Tap or Tapp; born 18 June or 18 November 1939 or 1941 or 1946 or 1950 in Saigon or Hong Kong or Hanoi) is a French singer, songwriter, painter, television presenter, actress, and former model.
Biography. Amanda lear was born in Vietnam in 1950 from an English marine officer and an Asian mother. When her parents divorced, Amanda shared her life between her English family and France where her mother had settled. Already bilingual, she followed classical studies and became polyglot having learnt German, Spanish and Italian.

She is a show-person who rose to fame in France on her gender-bending ambiguity, which Lear played up, such as by performing "I'm a MISTERy", purposely misspelling the title to tease her audiences. She is also known for her gravelly voice and her "Lily Marlène" song, which is tribute to Marlene Dietrich.
