Carole King is an American musician. She portrays Sophie Bloom, the often-sarcastic music shop owner on Gilmore Girls.
She is also the singer performing the opening theme of the show, "Where you lead". She is a legendary singer-songwriter who has written over 400 songs since her career began in the 1960s, penning lyrics for iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin, the Beatles and Celine Dion.

In 2000, King was asked to record a version of her hit song "Where You Lead" as the theme song for the show Gilmore Girls. She rewrote a few lyrics to fit the mother-daughter story. She often performs this song with her daughter, Louise Goffin .
