While being pursued by Detective Mike Norris, 30-year-old Charles Lee Ray, a serial killer known as the "Lakeshore Strangler," is shot and mortally wounded. Before dying, Charles quickly takes cover inside a toy store, finding boxes of Good Guy dolls.
On November 9th, 1988, Charles Lee Ray is chased down after a failed robbery, by detective Mike Norris. After he is fatally shot, his partner in crime Eddie decides to bail and drives away in the getaway van, despite Charles' pleas.
In the film, a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray, aka Chucky (Brad Dourif) uses a voodoo ritual inside a toy store to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll to escape from Detective Mike Norris (Chris Sarandon).

The story begins on November 9, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. While being chased by Detective Mike Norris, Charles Lee Ray ("Chucky"), the notorious "Lakeshore Strangler", takes cover in a toy store, but is shot and mortally wounded by Norris. Before dying, Charles swears revenge against Norris and finds boxes of "Good Guy" dolls, crashing into them.
