Gothic is an aesthetic based around Gothic architecture and literature, seen through a Romantic lens. The Gothic originally started as a style of architecture in 12th century France, with significant characteristics being pointy arches (more specifically the ogive shape) and usually applied on flying buttresses.

This sophisticated new design style combined a detailed observation of nature with an expressive elegance.
